When the Australian Paralympics Team get on their flight to Beijing in September, they'll be sent off with well wishes, hopes of success, and the sweet music that helped pay for their airfares.
Australia's top musical theatre stars - such as Ana Marina, Tamsin Carroll, Rhonda Burchmore, Amanda Muggleton, Peter Cousens, John Paul Young - are holding a special concert to help raise $150,000 to pay the airfares of the Paralympics Team for the 2008 Beijing Paralympics. The more money raised sends more athletes to represent Australia. The APC has been fundraising to double the size of the team.
Cast members from shows such as Billy Elliot, The Phantom of the Opera, The Rocky Horror Show, Spamalot and Shout!, will be performing memorable moments and songs as well as their personal favorites.
"As we prepare to send our biggest ever team to a Paralympic Games overseas, we are extremely grateful for all the support we receive," said Darren Peters, Australian Paralympic Committee CEO. "The entertainers in this show are among the very best in Australia. That they have donated their time for our Australian Paralympic team is absolutely fantastic."
A Musical Send Off, Capitol Theatre, 13 Campbell St, Haymarket, Sydney 2000. (1300 855 445). Mon 16 Jun. 7.30pm. $99.
