Cinderella On Ice - Preview

Jokes about being on 'ice' aside, the Imperial Ice Stars are to skating what Cirque du Soleil is to circus.

Cinderella On Ice - Preview

If dazzling ice-based theatrical productions get you hot under the collar, Cinderella On Ice will well and truly melt your expectations, with 23 Olympic, world, national and European championship skaters ice dancing to one of the all-time classic stories.

With elaborate choreography by Tony Mercer, ornate costumes by Albina Gabueva of Moscow's Stanislavsky Theatre fame, the Russian performers have been coached extensively, some since the age of four, and bring with them, presumably not in their hand luggage, a total of over 200 competition medals. But the talent in this production isn't just on the ice.

The sets are designed by Eamon D'Arcy, one of Australia's foremost set designer who, as well as designing for stage, is best known for his work at the opening ceremony of the 2006 Winter Olympics. If that doesn't give you some idea of the grandeur of Cinderella on Ice, perhaps you'd like us to turn a pumpkin into a coach and drive you there ourselves.

Cinderella on Ice runs from Fri 22 Aug at the Theatre Royal.
