Cruelty Free Festival 08
People are stopping to consider what they eat, where our food comes from and whether it was produced with minimal animal suffering

More and more people are stopping to consider what they eat, where our food comes from and whether it was produced with minimal animal suffering. That's the idea behind the annual Cruelty Free Festival. "Most people really like animals and don't intentionally support products that promote animal cruelty, so it's our goal for the festival to showcase how people can help animals without having to change too much of their lives," says event organiser, Jessica Bailey.
She adds it's definitely not about converting people to a vegan lifestyle, but about raising awareness for the cause and showing how small changes can make a very big difference. The day is also a chance to kick back in the park and enjoy all sorts of great entertainment.
Hosted by The Doctor from Triple J, there's a sideshow of cabaret dancing and local bands, including an acoustic performance by Blackie from legendary Aussie band The Hard-Ons. Celebrity chefs Suzy Spoon and Leigh Drew will also be cooking up a vigorous vegetable storm. As well, around 60 stalls will display cruelty-free products, with animal rights and rescue charities at hand to help you foster your very own furry friend.
The Cruelty Free Festival is on Sun 2 Nov at Belmore Park.
