Danks Street Festival
Waterloo's art, design and food fest is back again.
By Gabriel Knowles

We all know Danks Street is the foodie mecca of Sydney. The award-winning cafes and providores that line the streets are even attracting foreign tourists. But it's not all knives and forks down at Danks Street, with the annual festival set to put the precinct firmly on the art and design map.
Organiser of the pyd Designers Market, Geoff Clark, is a huge advocate of the cutting-edge design that's on offer. So much so that he's organised to host the designers market in the pyd building, giving some of Sydney's brightest young talents the chance to show their wares to the 30,000 expected visitors. "If people really want something individual and special then it's the place to come," Clark says.
"I think it's going to be really interesting to see just how much variety there'll be and you'll actually get to meet the people who've designed everything."
If you prefer taking in things that are a little less functional then there's always the Artists Market; or Arty Pants, if you like your art hands on, literally (in which case you'll need to be a child to participate). Over on Young Steeet the Produce Market will cater for the rest of your senses. Sample any number of jams, oils, breads, cured meats and as much ice cream that you can fit in, or simply roll into a café. Make sure you choose wisely, because we hear one of them is offering a free glass of Sangria with every purchase. If you eat or drink too much then the free shuttle buses to and from Redfern and Darlinghurst should come in handy.
The Danks Street Festival is on Sun 26 Oct, 11am–4pm, on Danks and Young Sts, Waterloo.
