As the world’s largest short film festival, Tropfest is a highlight of Sydney’s summer calendar. It offers filmmakers the chance to showcase their creative visions, and gives them a shot at Hollywood.
From a pool of hundreds of entrants, 16 finalists are chosen, and these rise to stardom when their work is aired before an audience of film alumni, critics and 80,000 Domain picnickers, not to mention those tuning in on Movie Extra. The festival has been known to draw more than 650 entries from first-time directors, film students and experienced industry folk. This year’s the world's largest short film festival returns for its 18th year with the Tropfest Signature Item (which every film must reference) being “dice”.
It’s a free outdoor celebration, with live music and entertainment on the Gibson Artist Stage. Pitch your rug nice and early - the entertainment throughout the afternoon will keep you occupied before the screenings commence.
