CUB Brewery site
Now
Once akin to Willy Wonka’s factory for Sydney’s beer drinkers, the old CUB brewery site has stood dormant on Broadway since the last amber drop ran dry in 2005.
Future
The 5.7 hectare industrial site, bordered by Broadway and Abercrombie streets in Chippendale, was purchased for $208 million in June 2007 by Frasers, one of Singapore’s largest listed corporations. A $2 billion development is set to begin later this year transforming the site over eight years to accommodate 1,600 residential apartments, a serviced apartment hotel and more than 90,000 square metres of commercial and retail space... and presumably, a pub. Frasers are aiming to complete a 5,000 square metre public park on the site of the recently closed-off Balfour Street before a December 2010 deadline.
