Free art

Fine art: costly to own, but often completely free to look at. For example, if you want to know what $16 million worth of paint on canvas looks like, check out the new Cézanne at the Art Gallery of NSW - the gallery is free to enter (and heated, to boot). While you're there, examine some priceless Joseon Dynasty screens in the Korean Dreams show, or moving-image works in Double Take: Anne Landa Award. There are no entry charges at the Museum of Contemporary Art and right now it's got three very entertaining shows on - dotty Japanese installation artist Yayoi Kusama; the bizarre and exciting scribbles of recent Australian drawing in I Walk the Line; and text-based works in Avoiding Myth & Message. And if you're still down at the Rocks at 6pm, then why not take in Vivid Sydney's Light Walk (26 May-14 Jun) and experience 26 different illuminated on-street installations?
