How to get into an exclusive bar

Membership is $10,000 - yes, you read right - but that doesn't mean you can't make an appearance as a non-member. It doesn't cost anything to get in, and if they're not having a private party entry is fairly straightforward. Dress nicely, as with any of these places, and don't give the bouncers any lip.

Ivy Pool Club
Getting into the Ivy Pool Club is relatively easy if you're eight feet tall and built like Twiggy. For all you regular folk, you'll need a loyalty card and they're rarer than hen's teeth. In fact, they've actually stopped releasing them for the year. If all else fails, head up to Italian restaurant Uccello that borders the club and press your nose up against the glass to watch the beautiful people frolic.

Shear Bar
To drink at Rouse Hill's most exclusive bar you need to be over 25, fill out a bunch of forms and hand over $50 for membership. Even then you have to go through a screening process and an interview before they'll let you in.

Tatlers
This is one of the most exclusive venues in town. No booking? Haven't rung ahead? Under 25? Forgeddaboudit. They're not open to the public and everything is done by word of mouth – from sitting down with staff and booking a party to getting the guest list sorted.

You need a password to get into this super-exclusive bar at the back of Kings Cross nightclub Le Panic. It comes via SMS from the owner who will only give it to you if he knows you, and it changes daily. However, you can turn up at the door and if you look fit enough, they'll let you in anyway. It may seem too cool for school, but the bar staff are surprisingly friendly and helpful.
