#7: Marion Kramer
Overseas Passenger Terminal, The Rocks
By Annette Ekin
What do you do? I was doing graphic design up until 10 or 15 years ago and then I just started painting. When my kids were at school I started teaching HSC students, I tutor them privately. I paint skies, things getting blown away in the wind, that kind of thing. I have an exhibition coming up in June and I'm doing surreal, atmospheric works.
Where will you be exhibiting? At Michael Commerford Gallery in Rushcutters Bay.
What are you up to now? Oh just getting caught in the whirlwind of my daughter [Elke Kramer, Sydney jewelry designer]. You know: "Pick me up, take me here, I need a light." I had to go to my studio and take down a floodlight yesterday, and now she's got me here today and in the meantime I have to get my own work done. So there's a bit of pressure.
What do you think of Fashion Week? Oh, everyone just looks amazing. I can't believe the shoes.
All the shoes!
Your boots are great. Where did you find them? Just at Westfield. They're Italian. I like these kind of strange, loose boots.
Is the curly blonde hair a Kramer trademark? We're born with it. My grandmother and all her brothers and sisters had it, Elke's got it and my other son's got it. He's got a huge afro, he sort of maintains a Wolfmother look.
How do you put your outfits together? I just gather bits and pieces. This coat came from Kate Hurst who works in the same studio as Elke, and I don't know, this dress came from America from a 75 per cent discount place. I got this scarf in a Japanese store in Darlinghurst. Elke was talking about hand-painted fabrics and
I saw this and I thought: "Hey! You know what...?" So I get bits and pieces from everywhere. I don't really go to one place to shop.
What do you see as Sydney style? [Phone rings] Elke... I'm being interviewed for Time Out magazine. OK, I'll get a ticket and get in. OK, OK, bye... So what do I see as far as fashion? Very soft, feminine, satiny fabric. I think that blousy look that has stayed around for a couple years is going to go, it's going to be all tight again... There's Kate. [Shouts] Hey, do you like my coat? That's Kate Hurst, I get to know everyone, you know!
Where to after the show? I'm going to some comedy. I'm going to see Jason Alexander at the Enmore. It never stops!
