Armin Van Buuren
Who is he?
Armin Van Buuren (born Armin Van Buuren) is a world famous trance DJ from the Netherlands.
Related to 8th U.S. President Martin Van Buren?
None whatsoever. Martin Van Buren lacks the all-important second ‘U' in his surname.
Explain the second ‘U'?
One ‘U' alone wasn't enough to contain the trance.
What's Armin famous for?
Armin started DJing in 1995 at a small club called Nexus in the Netherlands, while simultaneously undertaking a degree in law. Thankfully for the trance scene, he turned his back on the courtrooms of Europe and faced the flashing lights of the dancefloors. From the get-go he was dropping releases on labels like Cyber, AM PM, Vandit and Minstry of Sound. He has collaborated with the likes of Tiësto and Ferry Corsten. He's since become famous for record-setting nine-hour solo shows. In 2007 he finally ascended to the lofty heights of world's #1 DJ, according to DJ Mag, and in 2008 received the Buma Cultuur Pop Award, the most prestigious music prize in the Netherlands. Furthermore, for over seven years and over 350 episodes he's been running his tastemaking two hour radio show A State of Trance. Last time he was in Sydney, white clothing was the dress code (presumably no one served pasta or bloody Marys).
Sounds a good dude. Where can I catch him?
Armin Van Buuren plays the Hordern Pavillion on Fri 6 June as part of the "Armin Only" tour of all-night music. Tickets are, ahem, $105.65.
