It's not often you hear of ICE helping to build communities, but tonight the Information and Cultural Exchange (ICE) is teaming up with the Sydney Writers' Festival to bring you Hip Hop Projections 3. Combing performances of spoken word, hip hop, song and dance, ICE have mined their SWITCH multimedia and digital arts headquarters in Granville for the most talented MCs to rep the Western Sydney massif.

If you like your lyrics with some corporate cred, signed artists OziBatla (of The Herd), DJ Nick Toth, Mike Champion, Darrio Phillips and the Eminent Family will perform, and even give you some tips on your skillz. And to prove this event is not a case of ‘too many MCs, not enough mics', famed Aussie hip hop queen MC Trey will also share the stage to promote her Urban Music workshops.

Can't quite imagine what all of this will look like? Don't worry: there'll be plenty of talent taking care of the visuals, with installations by video and multimedia artists Spook, Ben Hoh and Fadia Abboud.

And not only can you witness the stylings of some brilliant artists, but you also get to celebrate the fruits of all that labour - the launch of the 2007/08 Subtext book and CD. Produced in collaboration with a whole host of arts foundations, the book and album feature music and words from the Urban Music project.

If you like to get your ghetto on, or just want to hear some good music and learn a thing or two about hip hop, project yourself into Hip Hop Projections 3.

Hip-Hop Projections 3 happens from 7-9pm on Sat 24 May at Carriageworks. Entry is free, but it's essential to RSVP to 02 9897 5744.
