Sydney's top 10 Indie Nights
Brooke Salisbury runs down Sydney's top 10 indie nights

Starfuckers
Club 77 evokes mixed feelings, from the 3am line-up to the 6am exit. Boys who liked girls who liked girls and pre-Modular Bang Gang DJs called the dungeon home. A tween battleground, the dance floor hosts a neon revolution without peer.
Think Lycra, slogan t-shirts, Ksubi and gender irrelevant eyeliner.
Club 77 Kings Cross
Purple Sneakers
Not so much ‘your new favourite late night indie club' as a Friday night staple. Indie essentials mixed up with DJ sets and live performances from Sydney DJs and bands.
Think Plaid shirts, slip on sneakers, glo-mesh, red lipstick, scarves on men.
The Gladstone Hotel Chippendale
Creepy wallpaper and a killer sound system were trademarks of the underground indie lair. Once the majority caught on and it (literally) moved above ground to Club 77. These days they do semi-regular parties at Phoenix.
Think Serious male eyeliner, Gossip remixes, random pashes and super-sticky dancefloor.
Phoenix Bar Darlinghurst
Mum
Represents a palatable mix of live music and dance tunes born in the second wave of Sydney indie. Hosted by nightlife staple World Bar, it has plenty of seating, friendly staff and eclectic bands and DJs.
Think Indie kids, lasses on wine, lads with boutique beers, teapot cocktails.
World Bar Kings Cross
Hot Damn!
Rounds up Sydney's hottest indie bands, drawing a daring Thursday night crowd. Cheap as chips, it provides a mix of the avant garde and atypical with reasonable drinks. Follow it up at What Goes On?! where bands and DJs entertain into the early hours.
Think Packed dance floors, 3am singalongs, MySpace photo posers and house wine by the bottle.
Spectrum Darlinghurst
Boom Boom Mega Boom!
Bands kick things off but come 11pm, DJs take over. Hot, small and sweaty. Hear electro, house and indie anthems like they're going out of fashion.
Think Girls in heels, guys in skinny legs, coast and city crowd.
Candy's Apartment Potts Point
Brit Pop
Expect to hear every UK anthem to have flooded our airways since the 60s. The crowd's older but the tiny, carpeted dance floor gets the same workout. Drinks? Cheap. Entry? Free. Yay.
Think Sex Pistols, Cure, Smiths, Oasis, Kaiser Chiefs.
location TBA
SoSueMe
Mixing things up with themed parties and a claim to be 99 per cent genre-free, they sell buckets of grog for $10 and $4 spirits before midnight.
Think Surry Hills types, indie kids, cheap drinks and cheap fun.
Q Bar Darlinghurst
Loaded
The World Bar scores again with free indie jams of a Thursday night.
Think The coolest backpackers and their local friends.
The World Bar Kings Cross
We Love Indie
Free price tag at the swanky surrounds of Madam De Biers. Discerning hipster's Friday night dancefest from the new kid on the indie block, swimming in hype and good tunes.
