Oz kid star lands US role
Young Australian actress Jordana Beatty (aged 9) will star alongside Uma Thurman in Eloise In Paris - an adaptation of the popular series of books by Kay Thompson. The film is slated for US release in 2009 and is helmed by Father of the Bride and Parent Trap director Charles Shyer.

What's out there?
On the back of Dying Breed's recent hot screening at Tribeca, low budget Queensland production The Dark Lurking will make its premiere at The Cannes Film Festival on May 17.

Rabbits in Cannes
In other Cannes news, two Australian shorts have been selected to screen in competition. My Happy Rabbit - about a primary school experiment gone wrong - is the second time Oscar-nominated animator Anthony Lucas has made it into competition. Jerrycan sees young filmmaker Julius Avery in his first O/S competition.

Silents are golden
The AFC have announced they will return eight silent films to the US Library of Congress as part of a joint film preservation program. The films include travel docos, newsreels and a trailer for Frank Capra's Long Pants.

Warp, Madman deal
Local film and DVD distributors Madman Film have inked a deal with WarpFilms, UK offshoot of WarpRecords. The two collaborated on Shane Meadows' drama This Is England.
