Whaledreamers

They're dreaming of a better world

Whaledreamers

How does an ancient whale tribe come back from virtual extinction? The answers lie in Whaledreamers. As the threat of global warming looms, Brit director Kim Kindersley, Julian Lennon (yes, that one - he funded the film) and Koori elder Bunna Lawrie follow the Mirning Tribe's journey to healing.

"There's a really amazing story at work here, and it goes beyond this film. It's a whole subculture; an amazing, rich, ancient weave holding us together. To me, that's just so much more exciting than the closing ceremony of the bloody Beijing Olympics which frankly reminded me of Munich before World War II." Kendersley pauses. "What a terrifying spectacle. Our world is more than that."

Whaledreamers opens exclusively on Thu 18 Sep at 6.30pm Hayden Orpheum Picture Palace, 380
Military Rd, Cremorne 2090. (02 9908 4344) $16; $12.50 concs.
