How to avoid a hangover
Here are our tops tips to ensure you don't get toppled by a tipple

A fry up does wonders
1 Make a B line
Instead of waiting until the damage is done, stock up on vitamin B before heading out. Supplements like Berocca ($8 for 15) will boost vitamin B levels, which the body uses to break down alcohol. Or you could have a slice of Vegemite on toast to line your stomach with vitamin B.
2 Eat up
Put to bed (with an alka-seltzer) the old cliché "eating is cheating". Having a meal high in protein before heading out will help, says Sydney GP Dr Gillian Deakin. Apart from giving you an injection of antioxidants to aid the recovery process, the food will neutralise the alcohol, meaning it won't be absorbed into your blood stream as quickly.
3 See the light
If you can stand the taste, opt for a light beer. "Staying on light beer is cunning," says Dr Deakin. "You're out there, you have a drink in your hand, you're still enjoying yourself, but you're halving the damage."
If you just can't drink it, Coopers is a good option as it's made with natural ingredients with no preservatives or chemicals.
4 Just add water
For every two drinks of alcohol, drink a glass of water to keep yourself hydrated. Have a sports drink before bed and when you wake up to help you rehydrate and replace lost electrolytes.
5 You can't beat an egg
One of the reasons you feel terrible the next day is because your blood sugar levels have dropped dramatically after a night of throwing back sugary beverages. So drink a juice at breakfast and have some eggs as they are a good source of cysteine, which helps break down toxins in your body. Give the hair of the dog a swerve as you're just delaying the worst, says Deakin.
