Sydney boasts dozens of cycling and bicycle user groups (BUGs) who organise regular events for all levels of experience and ability
City and East
Bicycle NSW (02 9218 5400 www.bicyclensw.org.au or www.pushon.com.au). This member-based organisation runs a range of events and offers insurance to its members.
BIKEast (0412 013 262 www.bikeeast.org.au). Covering the area of Woollahra, Waverley, Randwick and Botany Council, this group runs a Wednesday morning ‘bike bus’ from Bondi to the City and Friday social rides.
Bike Sydney (0403 999 899 bikesydney.org). Affiliated with Bicycle NSW, this group holds regular meetings on the fourth Tuesday each month.
Marrickville-South Sydney BUG (02 9294 5900 www.massbug.org.au). This BUG runs ‘bike buses’ from the Inner West to the city.
North
Bike North (02 9872 2583 www.bikenorth.org.au) This non-profit community-based group covers the Hornsby, Hunters Hill, Ku-ring-gai, Willoughby, North Sydney and Ryde Council areas.
Manly-Warringah/Mosman BUG (0419 432 626 cyclingsydney.com/ManMosBUG/index.php) Join an event around Mosman and the northern beaches.
Northern Beaches Bikers (02 9416 1062) This group holds regular rides around the northern beaches and occasional cycling trips further afield.
South
Bike South West (02 9771 4606 www.bikesouthwest.org.au) Runs regular rides and is active in lobbying local governments on cycling issues.
St George BUG (02 9529 6791 www.stgeorgebug.org.au) Social rides on the first Sunday of every month.
West
Ashfield BUG (02 6682 6322 www.ashbug.org.au) This Ashfield-based cycling club runs a Wednesday morning ‘bike bus’ from Summer Hill through Leichhardt into the City.
Burwood Strathfield BUG (02 9747 5219 www.burstbug.org.au) This group runs a Tuesday morning ‘bike bus’ from Homebush Station to the city.
