Free food
There are plenty of places to eat on the cheap in this city, but few that are completely free. Aside from those happy vegetarian folk at Hare Krishna Food for Life and the Greek Orthodox Church in Newtown, you'd be hard pressed to find a sit-down diner that runs on goodwill alone. So it's time to get resourceful, Sydneysiders, and make like the hunter-gatherers of old. Grab some friends and make like a herd on the move, grazing as you go on free samples. Hit up a shopping centre that has a David Jones Food Hall, a Harris Farm Markets greengrocer, and a T2 teashop to wash it all down. Farmers' markets are a great place to wander and nibble while having a chat to the growers; check the dates. Ditto food and wine festivals such as the upcoming Primo Italiano in East Sydney. And if you're not too self-conscious, ask a bakery or sushi bar that's closing up for the day if they'll give you the stuff they're throwing out. What's more important - pride or hunger?
