Co-Founder, Dinosaur Designs

"If Sydney was a Dinosaur Design..."

It would be a large open shaped bowl, bluey/turquoisey/green in colour with the light shining through it. Organically shaped by many hands, and to be filled with lots of joy and happiness.

Liane Rosler is one third of the team behind iconic Sydney jewellry/homewares designers Dinosaur Designs. She met her partners Louise Olsen and Stephen Ormandy at Sydney art school in 1983 and the trio began selling handprinted frabrics and painted jewellry at Paddington Markets. The business now has stores in Melbourne and New York and exports to 20 countries worldwide.

What inspires you?
Magazine
I love Dwell magazine - the combination of design, innovation and sustainability. Frankie is also a favourite and I always read Vogue Living, Inside Out and Belle.

Website
www.treehugger.com is a favourite - there is always something innovative and inspiring, and I love watching TED talks. You can hear great talks by the world's leading thinkers and doers.

Building
I love the sculpture in the Liner House building in Bridge Street in the city, and I love all the 60's houses around Sydney.

Outdoor space
I love the harbour walk in front of the Opera House at night.

Creative space
I have an office at home up high in the trees with lots of natural light that I love working from - I have all my favourite bits and pieces around me for inspiration, and it is also really peaceful to work in at night. My office at work is also filled with lots of my favourite postcards and pieces I have collected and I love working there.

Gallery/museum
I usually spend the weekend going to galleries and museums. We're regular visitors to the MCA, AGNSW, Sarah Cottier Gallery, Darren Knight Gallery and Barry Keldoulis Gallery. At The Australian Museum, I love all the minerals and gems, as well as the insect and animal displays.

Cinema
There is always something good to see down in Paddington at the Academy Twin or Verona , and then have a look at Ariel bookshop after.

Sydney suburb
I love Chinatown and Cabramatta for the colour, excitement and bustling atmosphere. You can feel like you are in another country.

Who is your ultimate Sydney style icon and why?
Cate Blanchett is such an inspiration. She seems like such a strong amazing thinker, with her own unique style, so innovative and very true to herself and her beliefs.  She combines her passion of the arts with caring for the environment and her family.

Who in your sphere is an up and coming Sydneysider to watch?
In the design world, Lana Alsamir Diamond [owner of Beautiful on the Inside 322 Bourke Street, Surry Hills] has a great eye and unique style.
